US Open Series Recap

Back in Palma de Mallorca, Spain for the 52nd Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofia Regatta, March 31st – April 8th following back to back wins at the US Open Sailing Series in Miami and Clearwater!

Our preparation and persistence paid off with back-to-back wins at the US Open Sailing Series in Miami and Clearwater in early January and February of 2023. These wins marked the official beginning of the US Olympic Trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics and we are proud to announce that we have qualified as the sole representatives for the Marseille Olympic Test Event and the XIX Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile! In addition, we have also qualified for the first priority spot at the World Sailing World Championships in The Hague, The Netherlands. Both US Open Events were hard-fought regattas against all of our world class training partners on the US 49er Skiff Squad and required our absolute best sailing. We are determined to make the most of these future opportunities and look forward to representing the United States to the best of our abilities at all of these upcoming events!

Currently, we are in our final training preparations in Palma de Mallorca, Spain for the 52nd Annual Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofia Regatta. This event is looking to be one of the biggest events to date in the 2024 Olympic Quad with over 100 entries signed up to compete in just the 49er class alone. We haven’t raced against the entire international fleet since the 2022 World Championships in Nova Scotia, Canada and are eager to put all of the learnings from our winter training and racing in Miami and Clearwater to the test.

In anticipation to what is to come, we completed in the Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta, which as usual, is the precursor event to the annual Princesa Sofia Regatta. The event played its part as a great warm up regatta with our team finishing 8th out of 55 boats competing in some windy and wavy conditions. As we look to close out our last few weeks before the main event, we are fine-tuning a few key areas in our game and preparing our equipment for what we know will be another great regatta here in Palma.

As always, thank you to the Windmark Sailing Foundation, St. Francis Sailing Foundation, US Sailing Team Staff and Coaches and all of our family, friends, donors and supporters. Our success is due to your belief in and commitment to our team and we can not thank you enough!
